Danny Williams sent the wrong message and gave Canadian health care an undeserved black eye in the eyes of the world by going to the US for surgery that could have been done in many cities in Canada. Canadian politicians should, on principle, use Canadian health care which gives Canadians far better health care than an equivalent (in income, etc. ) American has.

A message to politicians – Ease up on those who will be in your shoes in a few years. I want my Canada to invest in the potential of the youth. Future target —→ free post-secondary education.

A list of all the government sites available to keep the Canadian people informed.

The Prime Minister has now prorogued parliament for the second year in a row in mid session to avoid opposition defeat or inquiry. This is an abuse of power which the GG is meant to prevent. However, since the GG is only an appointed role there is an expectation they follow the advice of the elected PM. A law could be passed to require the PM to adhere to the result of a national election when appointing the GG thus giving them the legitimacy to stand up to a prime minister on such issues.

A recent poll (see link below) asked Canadians if they thought there was something wrong with our electoral system. They said yes and when asked for solutions the strongest response was to use online voting to make voting easier. There are a lot of issues with online voting but if it can get people out to vote it would be worth it. If security problems can be solved and if counting could be done proportionally this could lead to a big change in how we elect our MPs. But what do you think?

Canada committed to ending child poverty, but hasn’t followed through. As one of the world’s wealthiest countries, our child poverty rates (1 in 10 nationally) are an embarrassment. Let’s take care of our children!

In a time where climate change is a major issue, Canada should keep the moratorium on off-shore drilling off the coast of British Columbia. The area is both pristine and volatile. Earthquakes every few weeks, some of the world’s roughest seas. This is not a place we want the next Exxon Valdez to occur.

Putting fish farms in terrestrial facilities would minimize the risk to ecosystems and wild fish populations while reducing the sea-lice population and putting non-native fish species in a more managed environment.

It’s amazing to think that Canada, as the second largest country, has NO high speed rail network. Smaller countries like France and Japan are years ahead of us all. With climate change a hot political issue, and our vast and giant landmass, it’s about time we have a national high speed rail strategy.

Early childhood education, unavailable largely in Canada but popular in many developed countries, helps to promote healthy growth and development in children. Children do better in school…..better education of children results in a better educated, healthier and more economically productive society…..education is the best investment in stimulating the economy.

Can’t someone who supports this give us a description, its obviously a popular idea, but three words leaves a lot of detail to be filled in. What kind of advertising? targetted at anyone or children for example? Is this about any misleading advertising, or outright lies? Do you propose to create a truth commission that analyzes the factual details of all advertising and fine falsehoods?Would this be done before airing or after? How would the government encourage truth in advertising?

There is a shortage of social and supportive housing across Canada, a national plan is needed to help in the reduction of homelessness and poverty. Municipalities need assistance to provide the needed spaces for youth, adults and families that are living in accomodations that are not meeting personal needs for shelter, food and supportive enviroments.

Our parliamentary system provides for elected members to represent their constituents and to do so using their best judgment until the next election. They cannot be expected to resort to reaffirmation by election every time they make a tough decision such as voting against your party Some parties may eject a member for voting against them. Leaving your party and voting with others must not be banned. Instead ban only joining other parties and taking a ministry as often happens as a reward.

Parliament 2: Where YOU set the nation's priorities. Imagining how the parliament might work if it was run completely democratically through the internet

Getting involved is easy and fun. Just join and start setting your priorities, like a to do list. The more people who make your priority their own priority, the higher it rises in the charts. The more people who join the network, the more clout we have to make our agenda happen.
