hmm since its mostly a ceremonial role with no real practical power, i’m not sure a full national election is needed or warrented. But the practice of the PM being able to appoint all these types of positions isn’t that great. Why not a free vote in the House of Commons among MPs, like how the speaker of the house is elected.

Hmm while I think its probably not the best thing for a politicians public appearance to do such a thing, we do live in a free country and should they not have the choice to seek care from abroad if they wish too?
